Shilpi Verghese, Ph.D., Joins PPG as Patent Agent in Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals

PPG is pleased to announce that Shilpi Verghese, Ph.D., has joined the firm as a Patent Agent in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

With more than 16 years of research experience in the life sciences, Dr. Verghese brings knowledge spanning cancer biology, molecular biology, genetics, and gene regulation. She will assist with prior art research, patent application drafting and patent prosecution before the USPTO and correspond with foreign associates to guide the prosecution of foreign applications.

Her work includes 11 peer-reviewed publications, including research and review articles and a book chapter. Her research has given her a broad understanding of the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying development and disease.

She developed an interest in intellectual property and the commercialization of scientific discoveries through her work with Emory University's Office of Technology Transfer, where she gained experience evaluating emerging technologies for intellectual property protection and commercialization. She subsequently pursued patent law training and is a registered patent agent before the USPTO.

Dr. Verghese earned her B.S. in Biotechnology from Loyola Academy in India and her M.S. in Biotechnology from BIMR & College of Life Sciences in India. She received her Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Dayton and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Colorado Boulder and Emory University.
